One pocket, twice the house edge

The European wheel has 37 pockets: the numbers 1 to 36 and a zero. The American has 38, because a double zero is added. That one extra pocket doubles the share the house keeps on average — from around 2.7 to around 5.3 per cent. Why there are no systems
